Friday March 30th
Gym Studio, Xavier's
After opening the door to one of the small, private gym studios, Everett Tanner took a step inside and exhaled with an audible breath through his mouth. "Let's do this," he thought as pressed the light switch just to the right of the door frame. The switch turned on with a loud clack, which echoed in the largely empty room, which contained a complete set of dumbells, kettle bells, a shelf of stability balls, battle ropes, a large tire, workout mats, a few benches, barbells, and cylindrical free weights. The studio contained a large mirror on two of the walls, opposite the workout equipment and door, and had rubber gym floor on one side and hardwood floor on the other. It was an excellent studio for a private gym and definitely contained the newest fitness equipment and weights. Being an athlete and personal trainer, Everett loved everything about it. It was definitely a dream of his to have his own private gym studio, complete with an acrobatics/gymnastics room. Until moving into Xavier's, he didn't think that dream could ever come to fruition, but now that he was here and saw the resources that were at his disposal (that is, if he decided to stay), it certainly became a possibility for him.
While being unemployed was certainly a bummer and a constant stress for him, Everett was happy to have some place to exercise and burn through his frustrations and emotions. Besides, Jake was busy teaching during the day and spending time with Calli most evenings, and having popped into, then out of, then back into his older brother's life was probably stressful for Jake too. Ev didn't want to push the boundaries any more than necessary, so he avoided trying to be needy about his time with his brother. Besides, there were so many mutants at the mansion, there was no reason for him not to make some new friends now that he was here, evidently permanently.
After setting his gym bag down in the corner and taking a swig from his water bottle, he removed his favorite, but ratty, gray sweatshirt and walked out to the middle of the rubber floored portion of the gym. Ev's look for the gym was always on point, not surprisingly since he was a personal trainer and spent most of his time wearing workout clothes. He always made sure he stayed on top of the latest fitness clothing style trends, as best he could with his limited funds anyway. He work a black sleeveless shirt, which was slim fit but not skin tight, and black workout shorts with gray full-length tights underneath. He pulled out his red, oversized Bose headphones from his gym bag and placed them around his neck as he connected them to his iPhone, which he unlocked and scrolled to Kendrick Lamar. It was still moderately early for Ev, so he needed some music that really got him pumped up with a good beat.
Taking another deep breath through his nostrils and out his mouth, he extended the combat ropes, which stretched from one side of the room to the next. He pushed through sets of 30-second combat ropes, followed by 30-second planks and 30 pushups. Everett felt as though he had gotten lazy during his time off, and so he really pushed himself harder than usual. Four reps later, he had beads of sweat on his forehead and neck, and splotches of sweat on his shirt along his sternum. It was rough doing HIIT exercises again, but he needed to get his body in gear for his next training job, and so he pushed through. After taking a few minutes to catch his breath, he placed one 45-pound cylindrical weight on each end of a barbell and started doing sets of deadlifts, curls, and arm presses. At his peak training state, Everett didn't struggle a bit, but at that moment, he body was resisting, particularly his back. It was definitely something he needed to work on more.
Eventually, Everett gave up when his body refused to lift the weights above his head during the arm press set. At that point his face was red and drenched, and so, he was ok taking a breather. He placed the weights back and began bench pressing with two 35 lb dumbbells, doing sets of 15, with 10 seconds in between. God, it felt great to be working out again, but also so so so horribly.
During one of the quick breaks, Ev's mind shifted to life at the mansion and where he fit in the big picture. He didn't know where yet, and it gave him sudden bursts of stress. Shaking his head, he pushed the thoughts away, focusing back on the task at hand: working and strengthening his body. He would need to work on strengthening his mind at some point too.

Since everything had happened with Darren, Alex had hoped that his life and sleep schedule would go back to somewhat normal. There was still that addiction to caffeine that kept him functional through the afternoon. This morning he'd slept in a bit since his class wasn't until the afternoon. The tall male had tried to get Dani to stay in bed with him, but unfortunately, she'd had things to do between classes and other stuff. So, he had laid in bed staring up at the ceiling for a moment before that restless feeling set into his bones. He needed to get up and move. There were a couple of choices. He could have gone for a run around the grounds or he could go to the subbasement to use one of the training rooms for a good workout.
Alex had opted to stay indoors. If he still felt restless after his workout, he'd go for a jog before seeing if Dani wanted to have an early lunch. Alex was still trying to figure out the right time to ask her if she'd marry him. It was probably this that was giving him the restless feeling. A part of him just wanted to ask her while another part wanted to make it romantic. Then again, he didn't want her thinking it was just because they were going to have a family together. The man was stuck. It would help to discuss this more with Darren, but he didn't want to be a bother especially after everything that happened to his best friend. No, he was better off figuring this out on his own.
And what better way to run from his problems then to sweat it out in the gym. Alex was dressed in a loose gray tank and a pair of navy workout pants making sure to grab his gym bag with his change of clothes so he could shower downstairs. As he headed down, he made sure to acknowledge any students that he came across looking down at his watch reminding them that class was going to start soon. It was funny to him that when he was in school he'd been one of those students to linger until he was almost late. Now, he was on the other end reminding those students to get to class.
Alex finally made it to the elevator to get to the subbasement to one of the gyms. The door opened to the telltale signs of someone else having the same idea to use the gym. Even if he didn't feel like being social very much, he could certainly be friendly especially when he saw who was using the gym. A smile coming across his face. He set down his bag before moving forward watching Everett for a moment. Yes, he was familiar with the younger of the Tanner brothers. Not that he really knew where Everett fell in line with the large family. Alex had stopped asking those questions a long time ago.
Seeing the headphones, Moose didn't even know if he'd be able to hear him. Instead, he just observed for a moment before thinking he should probably get on with his own workout. It was always good to see familiar faces once more. That was one of the things he liked the most about Xavier's. People were constantly coming and going so a person never knew when a friend would drop by or decide to stay for a while.

As the rap music played in Everett's headphones, he went into a sort of meditative state with his working out. He heard the music, though, paid little attention to what he was actually listening to beyond the beats. He felt his deep breathing, inhaling and exhaling with his movements. And he felt his muscles become tense and uncomfortable as he pushed through the exercises, forcing himself to keep going despite wanting to stop. Beyond that, there was nothing else. His mind was focused on only those three things, and it felt nice. Working out was a way to escape and enter a truly emotionless, thoughtless state that eased his often anxious mind. Without having that in his life, he often wondered what his life would be like. It may not have been a long-term career plan, but it felt good to work out again, and it reminded him of why he did what he did - to give people that same feeling as well.
In the middle of one of Everett's bench press reps, Alex entered the private training room, set his bag down, and smiled over at Everett, who admittedly didn't notice at first. It wasn't until he saw a body moving toward him in his peripheral vision that he realized he had a visitor, giving a small smirk and nod in acknowledgemnt. Like a good trainer and athlete, he finished his rep before socializing. With a breathy growl, he pushed through his last set and sat up to greet Alex. Normally, Everett could bench significantly more than 70 lbs total, but he was a bit rusty and was focusing on form and endurance, rather than power, with the two 35 lbs dumbbells.
"Hey Alex!" Everett exclaimed as he stood up quickly, laying the weights down next to the bench he had been using. In "bro" mode from his gym rat days, he fist bumped Alex, smiling as he positioned his headphones around his neck. It was strange how Ev could transition from fabulous fierce queen to gym bro at the flip of a dime. "Geez, it's good seeing you again. How have you been?" Even though Alex was very obviously straight, Everett couldn't help but find him cute; however, he would never admit it to anyone, especially Jake. He knew they were close friends since Jake arrived at Xavier's back in the day, and Ev didn't want to make anything weird or uncomfortable. Not to mention, Ev had plenty of straight guy friends he found hot or cute, but never found any of them "attractive" in the boyfriend sort of way. But mostly, Everett was enamored with Alex for mostly helping him through his recovery 6 months ago when he had a bruised liver after his attack. Alex was one of the few people who he saw every day, and so they had struck up a small friendship, which was nice. Everett didn't get much of a chance to meet people when he was here last, and so it felt nice to have a few acquaintences around the mansion.
"Oh, I also hear you are Jake's best man! Congratulations! So I have to ask... for the bachelor party, will there be strippers, what will be the booze situation, and where will the madness take place?" Everett gave a big grin, showing that he was mostly kidding, and hit the side of Alex's arm playfully. Having just worked out and being a bit younger than Jake, Everett had a bit more of that "youthful" energy. Though, Everett hoped that Jake didn't think that Ev was hurt by not being the best man. Truthfully, Everett didn't want the responsibility or the pressure. Plus, the two brothers didn't know each other that well yet. Alex and Jake were definitely more like family members in the traditional sense than Everett could ever hope to be with Jake, and that was ok. Everett was just happy to be able to be apart of the happy day when it comes.

Alex figured that Everett hadn't noticed him when he made his entrance into the gym. It was kind of obvious by the way he didn't acknowledge his presence. The tall man also noticed the headphones that were playing loud music. A part of him wanted to point out that loud music was a good way to lose his hearing, but he wasn't going to ruin his rhythm. Plus, he'd be a hypocrite if he did that. Alex had on numerous accounts listened to very loud music to get in the zone for working out and while jogging on the grounds. Instead of motioning to the man, he simply waited for him to finish his rep and notice that he wasn't alone.
It didn't take long. Alex hadn't just been standing there. He was stretching out before he started to work out. If he didn't, he was sure that he'd get sore even if he knew he was going to be sore the next day. There was always time for a stretch. The man smiled when Everett finally noticed him. It was definitely nice for him to see the man up and about. He'd been there when Everett was in the infirmary, and he had been there to make sure he healed up nicely.
When Everett asked him how he was doing, he nodded his head. "I'm doing great. Things are really great." He realized that might have made it seem like they weren't. "I didn't mean to make that sound fake. I'm really good. How are you? I'm glad to see you. You seem to be doing much better from the last time I saw you." Alex relaxed a bit around Everett. It was probably something about his youthful energy that put him at ease. He wasn't completely sure, but talk turned to his duties of being best man.
"I'm open to ideas. I haven't really had to plan a bachelor party before. I've been told no strippers though I didn't plan on having them. The liquor situation will be an abundance of alcohol as there should be, and I'm not sure location yet. I'm guessing somewhere close where we don't have to spend a hell of a lot of money on cab fare to get where we're going." Because he knew they'd all be drinking, he didn't want to have to worry about the car situation or how they were getting back to the school. A part of him was glad that there was no awkwardness over the fact that Alex had been made best man over Everett. It was easier on him. Plus, he could always just get tips on the bachelor party with the younger man. His ideal bachelor party would have been camping upstate with some beers and reminiscing over things. Maybe he should bring that up to Jake to see if he would be up for that.
