Drew missed the field. He missed it alot. But he had stayed out for a reason and still wasn't sure about this idea of going in. He was also a senior agent and this protest was too much of a powder keg to let him stay out of it. The range on his communicators was limited and he wasn't sure how helpful they were going to be without someone who knew him and his skill set on the other end. No one was going in as pairs. Just suppose to be eyes and ears and step in if one side or the other got too rowdy.
There was another reason he agreed to go. Kohl. He was concerned that his brother was going to make an appearance. And not in a way that he could support. He cared less about his brother's 'friends'. If they showed up causing trouble he could and would put them down.
He was dressed in his normal working uniform. He had his bow and arrows on his back, a gun on his leg, his bowie on his hip and two swords stashed carefully in his quiver. He wasn't as adept with those as others were, but he was hardly a slacker and things that were quiet and could be used in close quarters without injuring others? Those were things that he preferred.
He was also invisible. He had gone onto the human side of things. Walking, watching and waiting for reactions. Because this was a pressure cooker. He had seen things like this before. It would take just a single thing to tip the whole event, for everything to explode.
And sure enough, things exploded quickly. He was in the middle of what was a relatively peaceful protest even if there were words he wished he could unhear, and then there was a riot. He missed the match. So now his role changed. He couldn't say who had started things but he could move to protect those that needed it and arrest those who were doing the worst.
At least that had been the plan. He had pulled a human man off of a gray mutant and punched the man hard. Only having to pull the gray mutant off that man. Both who looked very confused at the whole interaction considering they couldn't see Drew. He growled as they started to go at each other. An arrow to the human's thigh and one to the gray mutant's arm paused them for a moment. He would have finished them off when he heard a cut off scream and decided to go see who else might need help.

Whose fucking bright idea was this? Really, had the city not figured out by now that protests involving mutants- no matter which way the original protestors swung- always ended in death and destruction? It was as dumb as taking a sparkler into a barn full of hay and just hoping nothing caught fire. Idiots.
“And there you go,” Aki muttered to himself as he watched the mob (or mobs, he guessed, since the mutant side was just as tense as the human side) shift from barely controlled to frenzied. The teen was standing out of the way a fair distance from the crowds so it took awhile for the wave of violence to reach him. So he watched as people turned on each other, caring little for age, gender, or actual involvement. Hell, he doubted most of them took enough time to determine if the person they jumped was actually human or mutant, as not all were obvious. Screams, shouts, the painful pounding of fists on flesh, and the commands for order from the poor showing of police force that the city thought could handle this filled the air, and like a disturbed nest of ants, the violence spread.
Some ran, some fought. Aki watched, arms crossed over his chest as he debated which he’d do. It didn’t take long for him to decide on the former, because this was hardly his fucking fight and he wasn’t about to put himself in harm’s way to save some stranger he gave zero shits about.
Unfortunately, the healer quickly found that he should have made that choice earlier or not even come near this area of town in the first place. Just as he was turning to head down the nearest alleyway so he could zigzag his way away from the chaos, a passing mutant- some bigass green girl with muscles the size of his head- seemed to take the scowl on the teen’s face to be a direct comment on her genetic status.
“You got something to say you little shit?” she demanded as she stalked toward him. Aki opened his mouth but didn’t get even the first syllable of his answer out before she lunged for him. “Shit!” the teen hissed as he dove and rolled out of the way of the charging, green rhino. She was uncoordinated- in comparison to the people Aki usually fought with- but she proved to be faster than he’d have given someone her size credit for. He managed to dodge her swipes and attempts to knock him flat, but with each one he realized she was backing him more and more into the wall behind him. If she caught him there, Aki didn’t doubt she’d flatten him into a pancake.
“You-- damn bitch-- I’m--” but he wasn’t able to finish telling her that he was like her, damnit, before she managed to snake out a hand and grab his arm. Hours and hours of training and muscle memory kicked in and Aki twisted, breaking her strong grip by hitting it where it was weakest. In the same motion, he spun and snapped his heel sharply into the side of her knee, causing it to give off a sickening pop as it bent. The woman let out a short scream of pain that ended when he knocked his elbow into her gut. Breathing only a little heavily, Aki jumped back, his dark eyes cold as he watched her.

“Fuuuuuuck,” Travis muttered under his breath in a heavy sigh the moment things began to escalate between both sides at this protest. Sure he agreed that people had the right to speak their opinion on a matter and be free to gather with like minded people… but this… this had been a bad idea to let it grow to something this big. It was always a bad idea to have something this volatile this big, and if one looked at history they could see more times than not it proved to be horrible ideas. Often leaving many people dead, injured, and arrested. And the moment shouting was turning into threats from both sides, Travis knew it was just gonna be a matter of time before it all exploded. Despite how much the Damocles and police were trying to keep things calm on both sides. Because no matter how much he would try to make the mutants around him think logically about the consequences of their actions, one little trickle of water can only do so much when it comes to raging infernos of anger and bigotry.
So that moment the shit hit the fan because of somebody finally acting instead of just talking, the Damocles agent had no choice but to react as fast as he could. Quickly grabbing a young teenage girl to pull her out of the way of rushing people about to trample her.
“T-Thank you!” she said with a shaky voice and wide lavender eyes as she looked up at Travis. “Go quickly, get out of here before you get hurt or arrested. Go!” he told the girl while hurrying her over to an alley and urging her to run down it and away from the growing riot. Even watching for a moment to make sure nobody was following her after she said thank you again and began running. Once she was out of sight, he then turned back to the chaos that was filling the streets; causing a gun loaded with bean bag rounds to quickly appear within his hand in a small puff of bluish gray smoke. After all, while he needed to stop people from fighting, they had to try and use non-lethal force unless there was no other option. And while he personally liked tranqs to help with that, he thought for right now he would stick to beanbag rounds until he needed the tranqs.
Which briefly made him wonder if he should just go with tranqs when he noticed a beefy green woman attacking what looked like a teenager and backing him up against a wall. To Travis’ surprise though while quickly running over to try helping the kid and calming the woman down, he found the tables being quickly turned. Watching as the kid got out of the hold he had suddenly been in and delivering a swift knee injuring kick to the woman twice his size; sending her down to her good knee in pain before falling over after being elbowed in the gut.
“Okay kid you can stand down now and put your hands up,” Travis loudly spoke as he quickly stepped up to the scene with his gun aimed at Aki but his finger not upon the trigger. Using the gun only as a warning as he moved to stand a bit between the two and look at them both now that the woman was injured and down with being defeated. “Now I have to take you both in for assault upon each other. So don’t make this worse on yourself. I really don’t want to have to use this on you… on either of you.” He warned verbally, trying to keep his voice calm as he glanced between the woman and young man. Hoping they wouldn’t continue to try fighting, especially since he really didn’t want the girl to get more injured or for the teen to get hurt either.

Drew had been in riots before, though rarely with mutant on humans and, he was fairly sure, mutant on mutant violence. He was pretty sure that was occurring today. After all, if he wasn't invisible everyone would assume he was a normal human.
Which made this all the harder to figure out who was really in danger. On his way to the scream, he passed by a scuffle that was almost definitely two mutants but both caught too far up in anything to realize it. He walked between them and pushed. He wasn't super strong but he caught them off guard and when their weight was forward. Both fell down hard. "Stop fucking fighting." He yelled as his passed.
But by then the screaming had stopped. That was the problem. There was just too much going on. Which is when he saw a familiar back. One that was heading to a different ally.
Unknown, at least for the moment, to Archer, Drew tagged after. Figuring the best place to be in a riot was next to his best friend and partner. He was surprised to see that Travis had already conjured what looked like a normal gun. That seemed, odd, considering that last he heard they were trying to keep it non-lethal. Then again he was shooting people with arrows so he probably didn't have a leg to stand on.
It was also lucky the skinny Asian kid knew martial arts...which also seemed so very stereotypical. Two targets. Two of them. Though only Travis was seen. He silently cocked an arrow aiming at the green woman. Whistling just slightly through his front teeth.
Even with the noise level, he was pretty sure Travis could hear it. He wasn't sure anyone else would know what to make of the slightly tweeting noise he had made, except to maybe think that there was a random bird nearby. It was an old code between the old partners. Telling Travis that Drew was there, and what side he was on solely by the noise. Which hopefully would also let the man know which target he had his arrows trained on.

Aki was not a sadist. He’d never been the kid lighting ants on fire with a magnifying glass or teasing classmates so he could feel better about himself by making them feel shitty. It bothered him to some extent to see general people in pain, especially kids, even if that discomfort was on a minor level in comparison to, say, how Kurt would feel. So, no, he was not a sadist, but watching the big, beefy woman (who probably would have smashed his head between her giant hands like a watermelon) crumble did give the healer some bit of satisfaction.
Especially knowing that little ol’ him had done it.
As he calmed his breathing and considered his next step, Aki’s held his cold eyes on her. Miss Anger Management was hardly down and out, after all, and Aki didn’t doubt that she’d try again to smash him once she recovered- probably with more enthusiasm than before as payback for what he’d done. So probably best to get out of there then before--
Aki didn’t hear the man approaching- not around all the noise surrounding the area- but he felt when they were no longer alone and turned just before the stranger told him to back down. Anger- well more anger- started to flare up...then took a big pause when he saw the gun pointed at him. Now, over the past few months, Alex had shown him many ways to disarm people with guns so this was hardly the first time he’d seen one, but having a presumably loaded gun aimed at you for the first time, by a stranger, finger on the trigger or no finger on the trigger, proved to be more than a little terrifying. A wave of cold seemed to spread through the teen’s chest as he sucked in his breath- but only until he heard what the man said next.
“What?!” he hissed in outrage and disbelief while still holding still because, hey, gun. “I didn’t assault her, that was self defense. She was trying to pummel me into powder despite-” Aki flicked a disgusted glance at the injured mutant who had gotten herself enough under control to glare back at him. “Having no damn reason to do so.” He looked back at the gun then the man behind it- really seeing him for the first time- but although he had to swallow before continuing, the Asian teen didn’t back down. But he did stay where he was because, again, gun. “So not assault but self defense.”
“Liar,” the woman hissed as she began to try to climb to her feet despite her knee. All those bulging green muscles tensed and Aki could tell she was thinking of going after him again, although whether for the same initial imagined slight or some new one Aki didn’t know. What he did know was that he now had two choices:
Stay where he was and risk more pummeling.
Or move away and maybe get shot.
Just fucking wonderful.

With how much chaos was going on around them, Travis wasn’t really concerned or in the mood to hear the whole yelling and bickering of people saying “who started what first” in these situations. Of course, seeing the reaction of the young man was not a surprise to the Damocles agent when he was told to back down and that they both were being taken in. And even though the kid even gave an outburst of his disbelief, Archer was able to catch the familiar sound of his partner whistling; the same they would use before he had gotten the coms that could work when he was intangible. So with knowing his partner was there, and assuming he was aiming at the green woman since the asian kid was covered, Travis felt a lot more confident in this being able to be handled quickly. Listening to the kid defending himself in saying that the Jolly Green Giantess was the one that attacked him first and how he had only been defending himself. Even giving the woman a very quick brief glance of his own in seeing her reaction to the kid’s claim.
Whether it was true or not though, the agent still had to deal with the situation of one injured and the other not.
“Even so, I still have to take restrain you both. You can prove -” Travis began to say. But before he could finish his sentence, the green woman hissed at the asian kid and started fighting her pain to stand up. Ignoring the Damocles agent’s warning to the kid to stand down, which had truly been meant for the pair of them. Which made him glare at the woman as he barked, “I said stand down. That’s your final warning, if you don’t listen we will not hesitate to restrain you ourselves.” Though while he was saying that to the female, Thresher was keeping his aim on the kid to keep him from running away. Figuring that if the kid was telling the truth he would stay right was he was to show he had only been defending himself. Plus, he had faith that Drew would be focusing on the woman and use something non-lethal to secure her.
Because despite being told by the killjoy to stand down or else, the giantess didn’t seem to like being threatened and grew more angry instead. “Those fucking humans started it!” she even yelled while still glaring at the kid. And before Travis could respond in saying he didn’t give two shits who started it, she was lunging forward despite her injured knee… determined to hurt the kid she thought was a human deserving of a pummel. Out of reflex in having indeed seen the shift in her muscles that warned of the coming attack, Thresher quickly outstretched his right hand towards the Jolly Green Giantess; unleashing a burst of his telekinesis to wrap around her and make her suddenly push back before being able to get any closer to the kid. “Wraith,” he even said in signalling his partner to restrain her as the woman tumbled back a bit. And with being sure she was gonna be taken care of, Travis looked back to the kid and finally dropped his aim; letting his arm rest at his side.
“As I was saying… you can prove your case of self-defense when you’re both more calm. I’m not gonna just take your word for it without getting both sides of the story,” he said while making a pair of handcuffs appear in a poof of smoke within his right hand. “So am I gonna have to use these or will you cooperate with us?” Curious a bit if the kid was indeed a human, and if so if he was an anti-mutant. After all, he had just shown the kid he himself was a mutant and if this kid was amongst the haters that might mean he won’t cooperate with a filthy mutant.
